Jared Leto was very committed to his role as the DC Comics villain The Joker in David Ayer’s upcoming “Suicide Squad” film, so much so that his co-stars never really got to deal with him out of character.
That includes Will Smith himself who plays Deadshot in the film. Despite working with Leto for several months, Smith told the Beats 1 radio show that:
“I’ve never actually met Jared Leto. We worked together for 6 months and we’ve never exchanged a word outside of ‘Action!’ and ‘Cut!’ We’ve never said ‘Hello,’ we’ve never said ‘Good day.’ I’ve only ever spoken to him as Deadshot and him as the Joker. I literally have not met him yet. So, the first time I see him will be ‘Hey, Jared. What’s up?’ Not a single word exchanged off camera. He was all in on the Joker… I’m looking forward to meeting him.”
Smith also describes the project, which follows various DC villains being used by the Government to go on dangerous covert missions, as “insane”. Filming wrapped the other month on the movie which is scheduled for release in August next year.
The talk comes as Leto has launched a new online interview series entitled “Beyond the Horizon” on AOL’s live interview platform ‘Build.’ Leto will be sitting down with some of the top minds from entertainment, business, tech, and fashion across ten weekly episodes every Tuesday. Guests include the likes of Deepak Chopra, Edward Snowden, Al Gore, Elon Musk, Jeff Koons, and Boyan Slat.
