Actress Wendi McLendon-Covey has spoken out about all the “Bridesmaids” sequel hubbub and star Kristen Wiig’s apparent involvement, or rather lack of.
Last week reports surfaced that Universal was moving forward with the project despite Wiig’s apparent desire not to do it just yet – ‘We aren’t working on that. Annie [Mumolo] and I aren’t planning a sequel. We are writing something else” said the actress.
Scene-stealing co-star Melissa McCarthy was floated as a potential new lead but McCarthy shot down those reports recently, calling them complete hogwash.
Now, asked about a Wiig-less “Bridesmaids” sequel, McLendon-Covey tells E! Online that “She never said that she didn’t want to do it, all she said was that she’s not working on it right this minute because someone gave her the opportunity to write and direct her own film so, duh, she’s going to do that first. So no. I think all she’s waiting for is for her and Annie [Mumulo] to come up with an idea that’s equally as good.”
Most of those involved in “Bridesmaids” are busy for much of 2012 with other projects so if the studio is to get them back, it’ll be a while.
