“Wicked” Adaptation Delayed Two Years

Wicked Adaptation Delayed Two Years

Universal Pictures has announced that they’ve delayed the feature film adaptation of the blockbuster Broadway musical “Wicked” by another two years.

The project, originally slated for December 20th this year, will now open on December 22nd 2021 against “Avatar 3” and a Disney live-action feature.

The new date was inevitable late last year after Universal moved the Tom Hopper-directed film take of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Cats” into that December 2019 slot.

Stephen Daldry is directing and Marc Platt is producing “Wicked” with Winnie Holzman and Oscar-winning composer Stephen Schwartz also collaborating on the screenplay adaptation. Jon B. Platt and David Stone will also produce.
