Actress Natalie Portman has made it quite clear that she’s no real desire to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and now Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has explained how the MCU intends to explain her absence.
Basically? She and Thor broke up between films. Speaking with EW, Feige says Thor’s attentions are now on Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie:
“We wanted Thor to encounter somebody that was near his equal and that his relationship with Jane may have evolved in unexpected ways in between The Dark World and Ragnarok and we wanted to pit him against a character who was much more his equal and in many ways his superior. Valkyrie is trying to not embrace any sort of Asgardian heritage that she has. Thor thinks maybe that will create a bond between them and, on the contrary, she wants to forget it all entirely.”
Thor himself, actor Chris Hemsworth, added: “(Thor)’s certainly enjoying being a drifter, being a solo cowboy out there.”
In the new film Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok – the end of Asgardian civilization – at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela (Cate Blanchett).
“Thor: Ragnarok” will open in cinemas on November 3rd 2017.
