“Spartacus: Blood and Sand” star Andy Whitfield has been given a clean bill of health and is already training for his return to the set of the Starz drama series reports Deadline.
Whitfield was diagnosed with treatable Stage 1 non-Hodgkin lymphoma in early March, just before shooting was to kick off on the second season. Production was put on hold so Whitfield could undergo treatment.
Five weeks ago it was announced that he was clear of cancer, and he completed treatment three weeks ago. Whitfield has already started his own training and will start vigorous boot camp training at the end of July.
The six-episode ‘prequel’ season which focuses on Lucy Lawless and John Hannah’s characters will still go forward and Whitfield will appear in two of the episodes which will shoot in October. Filming on the second season of the show is expected to begin directly after.
