Newcomer Fionn Whitehead (ITV’s “Him”) has scored one of the two young lead roles in Chris Nolan’s epic war movie “Dunkirk” reports The Wrap.
Nolan has reportedly been testing young actors for weeks, many of whom remain largely unknown, and it’s uncertain if Whitehead has closed a deal at this point. Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh and Mark Rylance are already onboard as co-stars.
The action-thriller, penned by Nolan, chronicles the WWII evacuation of Dunkirk and Operation Dynamo – the British military operation that saved the lives of 330,000 Allied soldiers who were surrounded by German forces. Nolan and Emma Thomas will produce.
The project will be shot on a combination of IMAX 65mm and 65mm large-format film photography for maximum image quality and high-impact immersion. Shooting begins in May in many of the real locations of the true-life events, with the film to open July next year.
