This week’s ticket sales for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” broke records in almost all countries where pre-sales took place. Ticket purchasing websites crashed several times, but most were lucky enough to get through and grab the early sessions of the film.
Marketing firm Movio, via THR, have published demographic data from those ticket sales using their own real-time aggregation transactional and behavioral moviegoing data platform. Said platform represents roughly 19 million moviegoers and provides analysis statistics for distributors, studios and trade publications.
Unsurprisingly, it’s men between 18-49 who were the primary purchasers with an average age of 34 for buyers. The audience profile runs 70% male and was “massively over indexing between age 18-49”. Those who scored them also spend an average of 2.6 times more at the box office than the average moviegoer, regularly go to the movies once a month, and two-thirds see new release films during their first week.
