Sony Pictures has delayed the opening of the Matthew McConaughey-led drug-dealing drama “White Boy Rick” by eight months. Originally slated for January 26th, the film will now open August 17th.
Set in 1980s Detroit at the height of the crack epidemic, the story recaps the true-life story of Ricky Wershe Jr. (Richie Merritt) who was an undercover informant at age 14 before becoming a major dealer – until he was arrested at age 17.
McConaughey plays Ricky’s father and is joined by Jennifer Jason Leigh and Rory Cochrane star as the FBI agents who begin working with Wershe, Brian Tyree Henry as a narcotics detective, Bel Powley as his sister, and Bruce Dern and Piper Laurie as his grandparents.
Yann Demange directs from an original screenplay by Logan & Noah Miller with revisions by writers Andy Weiss, Scott Silver, and Steve Kloves. John Lesher, Julie Yorn, Darren Aronofsky, and Scott Franklin have produced.
