AMC’s TV series adaptation of “The Walking Dead” is, like any adaptation, both criticised and occasionally praised for its changes to the source material.
The series just kicked off its seventh season and an element it has yet to tackle is The Whisperers. In the comics, The Whisperers are a group of survivors who have no actual desire to kill the living dead and walk among the zombies themselves wearing suits made from the skin of actual walkers.
If the series continues adapting the comics at the rate they are going now, we would normally expect the Whisperers to be introduced either late in the eighth or sometime in the ninth season of the show.
But today the descriptions for the next couple of episodes of the series have arrived and the sixth episode, which follows Tara and Heath, reportedly find a new and mysterious group – a group rumored to be The Whisperers which would indicate a far earlier introduction than expected.
Show-runner Scott Gimple was asked by ComicBook.com this week about this very rumor. His response says this isn’t them, but fans can expect the actual Whisperers to show up probably earlier than expected (maybe later this season) and when they do he hopes it will be a surprise:
“If we’ve gotten this far without saying anything about them, I’d like the audience to discover this group when it’s on screen. I will say … I mean, it’s not the Whisperers. I will also say, though, that it’s not impossible that the Whisperers could come along or aspects of them could come along earlier than the timeline of the book, but certainly not this early.”
Before we get around to that though there’s Negan and his group to deal with, an all out war and more rough times ahead for Rick and his group.
