Whishaw, Tovey, Cumming Join BBC’s “Queers”

Ben Whishaw (“Skyfall”), Alan Cumming (“The Good Wife”), Russell Tovey (“Looking”), Rebecca Front (“Humans”), Fionn Whitehead (“Dunkirk”), Ian Gelder (“Game of Thrones”), Kadiff Kirwan (“Chewing Gum”) and Gemma Whelan (“Decline and Fall”) will star in the BBC’s eight-part anthology short series “Queers”.

Set around the 50th anniversary of the Sexual Offences Act, which partially decriminalised homosexual acts between men, “Sherlock” co-creator and “Doctor Who” writer Mark Gatiss is curating the project which is being produced in partnership with The Old Vic theater.

Eight fifteen-minute ‘monologues’, each by new and established writers, will be staged at the Old Vic and will then be transmitted on BBC4 around the anniversary of the law in late July.

Whishaw plays a soldier returning from the trenches of the First World War in one. Tovey plays a gay actor in the 1980s. Front plays a woman trapped in a ‘particular marriage’. Cumming’s episode involves a reflection on modern gay marriage.
