Which TV Shows Will Return Next Season

With the five major American TV network upfront presentations set to take place next week, each of them has been locking down their schedules for the new season.

That means the axe has fallen on numerous shows over the past 48 hours, while others have scored renewal orders. Decisions have also been made as to which pilots will be ordered to series. Here’s the breakdown by network:

RENEWED: Castle, Grey’s Anatomy, Last Man Standing, The Middle, Modern Family, Nashville, The Neighbors, Once Upon a Time, Revenge, Scandal, Suburgatory

CANCELLED (OR FINISHED): Body of Proof, Family Tools, Happy Endings, How to Live With Your Parents for the Rest of Your Life, Malibu Country, Red Widow

NEW SHOWS: Marvel’s highly anticipated “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” the ‘Once’ spin-off “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland,” the Hannah Ware and Stuart Townsend-led murder thriller “Betrayal,” the remake of UK’s ‘The Syndicate’ as “Lucky 7,” Tricia Helfer as the only female Texan ranger in “Killer Women,” the Steve Zahn and Christian Slater-led psychology procedural “Mind Games”, and the back from the dead emotional drama “Resurrection.”

NEW SHOWS: Jerry Bruckheimer’s Toni Collette-led hostage drama “Hostages,” the Josh Holloway and Marg Helgenberger-led “Intelligence,” the Anna Faris single mom comedy “Mom,” David E. Kelley’s advertising workplace comedy “Crazy Ones” with Sarah Michelle Gellar and Robin Williams, and the parents move in with son (Will Arnett) comedy “The Millers”.

NEW SHOWS: On the drama front there’s a contemporary update of “Sleepy Hollow” with Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) pulled into the present, the JJ Abrams’ robot-hating cop (Karl Urban) partnered with an android (Michael Ealy) series “Almost Human,” the gang taskforce themed “Gang Related,” and the remake of the Aussie dramedy “Rake” about a self-destructive lawyer (Greg Kinnear).

On the comedy front there’s Seth MacFarlane’s limited series “Dads,” the Andy Samberg and Andre Braugher-led cop comedy “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” the 1990s California coming of age tale “Surviving Jack,” the brothers working at an Army base tale “Enlisted,” and the remake of UK’s ‘Gavin & Stacey’ as “Us and Them.”

NEW SHOWS: On the drama front there’s the James Spader-led criminal mystery thriller “The Blacklist,” Alfonso Cuaron’s ex-con protects a girl with powers tale “Believe,” the Gillian Anderson-led conspiracy thriller “Crisis,” the ensemble medical procedural “The Night Shift,” a remake of the 1960s cop drama “Ironside” with a wheelchair bound detective (Blair Underwood) solving killings, and the police procedural “Chicago PD.”

On the comedy front there’s “About a Boy” based on the book and Hugh Grant film of the sane name, “The Michael J. Fox Show” which is inspired by Fox’s real life and his dealing with Parkinson’s disease, the white and latino family’s collide comedy “Welcome to the Family,” the Sean Hayes-led “Sean Saves the World,” the dating comedy “Undateable,” and the post-divorce Parker Posey comedy “Family Guide.”

CANCELLED (OR FINISHED): 90210, Cult, Emily Owens M.D., Gossip Girl

NEW SHOWS: The much anticipated ‘Vampire Diaries’ spin-off “The Originals,” a remake of the UK series “The Tomorrow People” about young people with special powers, the story of Mary Queen of Scots’ rise to power in “Reign,” the sci-fi drama “The 100” about juvenile delinquents sent to see if a post-apocalyptic Earth can be colonised, and the ‘swap vamps for aliens Twilight-style’ series “Star-Crossed”.

Some of the basic cable networks have also announced cancellations and renewals.

TNT has officially cancelled acclaimed cop drama “Southland” and David E. Kelly’s medical drama “Monday Mornings”. As previously announced, they’ve also confirmed that “Burn Notice” will finish this season.

Syfy has officially renewed its new series “Defiance” for a second season.
