When Are Award Nominees On Disc?

With so little time these days to get out to the movies, only the most hardcore cinephiles find the time to see all the award nominated films theatrically.

For the rest of us, some titles we simply just wait for the DVD/Blu-ray release. Not all the nominees are out on disc yet so lets give you an idea of when you’ll be able to catch the few you’ve missed.

Firstly DVD and Blu-ray versions are already available in stores and online of “Bright Star,” “Coco Before Chanel,” “Coraline,” “The Cove,” “District 9,” “Food Inc.,” “The Hurt Locker,” “Inglourious Basterds,” “Julie and Julia,” “A Serious Man,” “Star Trek,” and “Up”.

James Cameron tells The Wall Street Journal that “Avatar” will hit DVD and Blu-ray in a ‘bare bones’ edition on Earth Day, April 22nd. The much more elaborate DVD and 3D Blu-ray version will hit sometime in November.

Others have already set dates:

March 9th: “Precious,” “Up in the Air”
March 16th: “The Princess and the Frog”
March 23rd: “The Blind Side,” “Brothers,” “Fantastic Mr. Fox,” “The Messenger”
March 30th: “An Education,” “Sherlock Holmes”
April 20th: “The Lovely Bones,” “The Young Victoria”

Not announced for the US yet but available in other countries are “The Secret of Kells” in Australia from March 10th, “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus” in the UK from March 29th and “The Last Station” in the UK from June 21st.

“Crazy Heart,” “Invictus,” “Nine” and “A Single Man” seemingly have yet to set disc release dates anywhere.
