“Westworld” Matches “True Detective” Debut

While Nielsen ratings for the series premiere of HBO’s sci-fi western “Westworld” won’t be available for a while, other stats are in with Deadline reporting that the broadcast drew 3.3 million total viewers on TV and on the HBO Go/HBO Now streaming platforms.

That would make it the most watched HBO drama series premiere in the combined metric since the debut of “True Detective” three years ago which also averaged 3.3 million multi-platform viewers.

It’s also double that of the Live+Same Day debut of the network’s other big premiere this year “Vinyl” which drew just 1.4 million total across platforms in February and was cancelled after one season.

HBO’s current biggest series, “Game of Thrones,”launched in 2011 with 2.2 million linear viewers for the premiere – but that was before the launches of HBO Go and HBO Now and so on demand/streaming audience figures aren’t available.
