Following this weekend’s reveal that Oscar winner Mahershala Ali will play the vampire hunter “Blade” in Marvel Studios’ reboot of the property, original “Blade” star Wesley Snipes has now commented on the hiring.
While Ali’s hiring has been met with a nearly unanimously positive response, tainted only by a section of the fan community who are firmly committed to seeing Snipes back in the role as his films were the first to lay the groundwork for the comic book movie renaissance of the past two decades.
Snipes, whose three “Blade” films have collectively grossed more than $400 million at the global box office, passed on a message to fans via Comicbook.com, saying:
“To all the DAYWALKERS losing their minds right now, chillaaxx. Although the news comes as a surprise, it’s ALL good. Such is the ‘business’ of ‘entertainment!’ Much peace to the MCU crew – always a fan. Honor and respect to the grandmaster Stan.
Congratulations and Salaam to Mahershala Ali, a beautiful and talented artist whose expressions I look forward to experiencing for many years to come. Inshallah, we will someday work together.
Most importantly to my loyal fans, the incredible outpouring of love is overwhelming. I am grateful for the never-ending support. So, ‘nah fret nah worry, it’s not de end of de story.’’Welcome to the Daywalker Klique.”
Snipes said he was “very much open to all of the possibilities” when it came to either reprising the character or playing another role in the MCU if the opportunity presented itself.
The new “Blade” has yet to set a production schedule and isn’t expected out until Marvel’s Phase 5 which begins early 2022.
