Wes Bentley Joins “Pete’s Dragon” Remake

Wes Bentley (“The Hunger Games,” “Interstellar”) has signed on to star in the remake of the 1977 family film classic “Pete’s Dragon” at Disney Pictures.

In the new version, Pete (Oakes Fegley) is a boy whose parents died in car crash. He has been subsequently raised by the dragon named Elliot in a forest now threatened by loggers.

Other characters include a forest ranger, along with a mill owner’s young daughter (Oona Laurence) and greedy brother. Robert Redford and Bryce Dallas Howard also star.

David Lowery helms the new film which he co-wrote with Toby Halbrooks. Filming will take place in New Zealand.

The news comes as the North American rights to the Bentley and Kate Bosworth-led thriller “Amnesiac” have been picked up by XLrator Media. Bentley plays a man who wakes up with amnesia. He soon suspects his wife isn’t really his real wife and finds himself a prisoner in the house.
