Wenham Malek To Enter The Furnace

David Wenham and rising star Ahmed Malek are set to star in Roderick MacKay’s adventure drama “The Furnace” which deals with the Ghan cameleers – Muslim and Sikh men from South Asia who opened up Australia’s desert interior.

Set in Western Australia’s 1890s gold rush, Malek plays a camel driver who teams up with a bushman (Wenham) as they outwit zealous troopers in a race to reset gold bars at a secret furnace.

Baykali Ganambarr (“The Nightingale”), Trevor Jamieson (“Storm Boy”), Erik Thomson (“Storm Boy”), Mahesh Jadu (“Marco Polo”) and Osamah Sami (“Ali’s Wedding”) also star.

Timothy White and Tenille Kennedy produce. Production will begin next month in Mount Magnet and Kalbarri in Western Australia.
