Filmmaking brothers Chris and Paul Weitz have come onboard the English-language remake of the 2011 Japanese horror tale “Birthright” which All Nippon Entertainment Works and Depth of Field will develop.
The story revolves around a young woman, invited to stay with a suburban family, who may be the abandoned daughter of the mother. When the visitor’s secrets are revealed all hell breaks loose.
The Naoki Hashimoto-directed original won a special jury prize at the 2011 Shanghai festival. Dan Balgoyen along with “Entrance” co-directors Dallas Hallam and Patrick Horvath are co-writing the script.
