Rachel Weisz is set to topline a biopic about 19th century surgeon Dr. James Barry at Maven Pictures. Barry was a woman who famously pretended to be a man in order to follow her dream of practicing medicine.
She was no shy wallflower though – not only working tirelessly in numerous postings but was also a flamboyant bon vivant who spent plenty of time with leading figures of the age from Mark Twain to Charles Dickens.
Nick Yarborough will pen the screenplay, adapting author Rachel Holmes‘ nonfiction novel “Scanty Particulars”. Weisz, Celine Rattray and Trudie Styler are set to produce.
