Wechsler Grabs King’s Throttle

Veteran producer Nick Wechsler (“Requiem for a Dream,” “North Country,” “The Fountain”) has optioned screen rights to horror author Stephen King and his son Joe Hill’s novella “Throttle” says Variety.

The story follows a father & son who are members of a motorcycle gang that’s chased through the desert by an 18-wheel tanker truck. The story will be published in the anthology book “He is Legend” dedicated to “I Am Legend” author Richard Matheson.

Wechsler is known for acquiring material early and taking time to develop it, such as he did with the upcoming film adaptations of Cormac McCarthy’s “The Road” and Audrey Niffenegger’s “The Time Traveler’s Wife”.

A Neil Jordan-scripted adaptation of Hill’s novel “Heart-Shaped Box” is headed towards production at Warners whilst his “Locke & Key” is under development at Dimension Films.
