Naomi Watts, Rachel Weisz, and Rebecca Hall are all under consideration for the lead roles in “The Trade”, the true story of two former Yankee pitchers in 1972 who swapped partners and families reports The New York Post.
Being lined up as the first film in over a decade to re-team Ben Affleck and Matt Damon on screen, Damon is also rumoured to be directing the film. Affleck and his brother Casey are currently at work on a new draft of Dave Mandel’s script.
The story is based on real-life players Fritz Peterson (Affleck) and Mike Kekich (Damon), who in 1973 revealed that they had been swapping wives and had fallen for each other’s partners. Peterson and Kekich’s ex-wife are still together today, while the other couple has since split up with Kekich later remarrying.
Kekich is reportedly trying to prevent his life story hitting the big screen while other former Yankee players are also not participating. The project is likely some time off as Affleck is next set to direct the political thriller “Argo”.
