Be it the haircut or the similarities in character, one of the first rumors surrounding Ridley Scott’s “Alien: Covenant” ages ago was that Katherine Waterston’s character of Daniels in the film will be the mother of Sigourney Weaver’s character Ripley from the original “Alien”.
It was a bit of fan theorising more than anything but it took on serious life, so much so that Ridley Scott was asked about it at SXSW in Austin this week. Movieweb reports that Scott made it quite clear that it isn’t the case, though it was seemingly suggested at one point: “No. That was probably way back when. ‘Should she be the daughter of Ripley?’ I said ‘no.’ She’s herself.”
Waterston was also present and was aware of the rumor saying, “who started that s–t?”. Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace, James Franco, Demian Bichir, Danny McBride, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Callie Hernandez, Nathaniel Dean, Alexander England, Benjamin Rigby and Billy Crudup also star in the film which opens May 19th.
