“Watchmen” Writer Plans “Superfly” Remake

Sony Pictures has closed a development deal for the remake rights to the 1972 classic blaxploitation film “Superfly” with “Watchmen” scribe Alex Tse penning the script.

Ron O’Neal starred in the original as Priest, a cocaine dealer looking to score one more super deal and retire, and is remembered mostly for the iconic soundtrack by Curtis Mayfield which outgrossed the film itself.

Sony hopes the remake will potentially lead to a series of films and the studio is already in the process of making a list of actors to meet for the title role. Joel Silver is producing.
