Watchmen On Verge Of Settlement?

A court conference scheduled for Tuesday between Fox and Warner Bros. attorneys has been canceled says The Hollywood Reporter.

The move has fired talk that a settlement in the contentious “Watchmen” case is imminent. Settlement talks between the two sides became serious over the weekend and continued to heat up yesterday.

Warners settled a copyright ownership issue over “The Dukes of Hazzard” movie for a reported $17.5 million. The settlement in this case, with the films pricey $130 million budget could prove decidedly higher and encompass not just an upfront fee but a cut of the film’s profits as well.

At the same time the studio, the most financially successful of the majors this past year, has asked its various departments to cut their budgets by at least 10% according to Deadline Hollywood Daily.
