Watch Dogs Delayed By Several Months

One of the main reasons for getting one of the next generation video game consoles at launch has now disappeared.

Ubisoft have announced that they are delaying the release of the highly anticipated “Watch Dogs” from late next month to sometime next spring. Ubisoft has also delayed its racing game “The Crew” to sometime around mid-2014.

An official representative for the company said in a statement:

“Our ambition from the start with Watch Dogs has been to deliver something that embodies what we wanted to see in the next-generation of gaming. It is with this in mind that we’ve made the tough decision to delay the release until spring 2014.”

“We know a lot of you are probably wondering: Why now? We struggled with whether we would delay the game. But from the beginning, we have adopted the attitude that we will not compromise on quality. As we got closer to release, as all the pieces of the puzzle were falling into place in our last push before completion, it became clear to us that we needed to take the extra time to polish and fine tune each detail so we can deliver a truly memorable and exceptional experience.”

The delay of “Watch Dogs” so close to release is a major blow as this new IP topped many people’s lists for the most anticipated games of the Fall season.

The delay isn’t expected to impact sales or critical reaction though as it’s a fairly common event in gaming. A year ago, “Bioshock Infinite” and the “Tomb Raider” reboot saw similar release delays from late 2012 to Spring 2013, and both proved to be strong sellers that will sit high on many ‘Top Games of the Year’ lists.
