With the first “Man of Steel” the most critically successful of the DC Extended Universe films to date, it doesn’t come as that much of a surprise that Warner Bros. Pictures has begun active development of a new “Man of Steel” direct sequel which will have Superman getting his second solo tale says The Wrap.
Warners and DC had previously been silent on a further solo Superman film, but a source for the outlet says the project has become a top priority for the studio and getting the character right for audiences is of tantamount importance. No word on what potential comic storylines they’ll use.
Warner Bros. has earmarked two untitled DC films for an October 5th 2018 and November 1st 2019 release but hasn’t indicated what they are. The Affleck-directed solo “Batman” film isn’t yet set either so it’s quite possible the Batman and Superman standalone films will fill those slots.
Henry Cavill next takes on the role in next year’s “Justice League” and is expected back for a second team-up film. The first “Man of Steel” earned $668 million at the global box office.
