Warner Bros. Pictures has won a heated bidding war for the film rights to Naomi Novik’s Hugo Award-nominated fantasy novel adaptation “Uprooted”.
The story centers on a young woman named Agnieszka who lives near the border of an evil wood. Only a wizard who seems to keep the danger at bay, and the price for his protection is that a woman from the village is sent to serve him for ten years with Agnieszka being the latest candidate.
Making a rare foray into films, Ellen DeGeneres and Jeff Kleeman will produce the adaptation with Warners beating out Lionsgate and Fox 2000 for the project. Novik also penned the dragon-laced Temeraire book series which Peter Jackson optioned to adapt a decade ago.
