WarnerMedia has given a straight-to-series order for a new “Gossip Girl” revival exclusively for their upcoming streaming service HBO Max.
Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios along with former executive producers Joshua Safran, Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage and Leslie Morgenstein are all returning to produce the new series.
Set several years after the events of the original, which ran from 2007-2012, this will follow a new generation of elite New York teens who end up being introduced to the social surveillance of the Gossip Girl site.
Issues such as the way social media has evolved in the years since will be explored. It’s unlikely original stars like Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley or Chace Crawford will return beyond cameos at most.
