“Harry Potter” series producer David Heyman is re-teaming with Warner Bros. Picture who have acquired the rights to the “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” IP from the Roald Dahl Estate and is planning a new movie centered around the eccentric character Willy Wonka.
The film will not be an origin tale, rather a standalone movie focused on Wonka and his early adventures. It’s unclear what other characters or scenarios from the original two books, other than Wonka, will be involved in the project.
“The Secret Life of Pets” scribe Simon Rich is penning the script while Heyman and Michael Siegel will produce. “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” has previously been adapted into two feature films, though the sequel book “Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator” has never been adapted.
