“WarGames” Rebooted As An Interactive Series

Over three decades since the release of the iconic 1983 Cold War film “WarGames,” Interactive-media startup Eko has announced plans for an interactive reboot of the franchise.

“#WarGames” will launch in early 2018, an interactive series created by Sam Barlow who was behind the acclaimed 2015 video game “Her Story” and says it is “really only conceptually based on the original film” with recent fare like the series “Mr. Robot” playing a bigger part.

The interactive series follows a group of young hackers who get involved in a web of modern espionage and government conspiracy. Viewers direct the story of the lead character, a female hacker protagonist named Kelly.

Eko hasn’t revealed distribution plans for “#WarGames” yet. Matthew Broderick and Ally Sheedy starred in the original “WarGames” in which a whiz teen hacker accidentally brings the world to the brink of thermonuclear war.
