Though critics have not been happy with the film, Duncan Jones’ “Warcraft” is proving a hit overseas and has just had a major impact on the Chinese box office.
The video game adaptation grossed a massive $46 million on its opening day in China – the best non-weekend launch in history in the country. It beat out “Avengers: Age of Ultron” which scored $28.3 million on its opening day.
Analysts are now predicting “Warcraft” could take in a haul of $150 million in its first five days of release in China. This will come as a relief for backer Legendary Pictures which is bracing itself for a very soft $25 million or so estimated opening at the North American box-office this coming weekend.
Outside of China, the film has already earned $75 million after three weeks release in select territories.
