Fox Networks Group Europe and Africa have announced plans for a modern day-set new TV event series adaptation of H.G. Wells’ alien invasion classic story “The War of the Worlds”.
“Misfits” creator Howard Overman has penned and will produce the new version which will span eight episodes and deal with a Martian invasion of the Earth. The action will be set in contemporary America.
Mammoth Screen, Urban Myth Films and Canal+ are partnering on the project which is already in pre-production and is scheduled to shoot in the Fall. The series will air on Canal+ in France and on Fox across 50 territories with Studiocanal distributing the rest.
The project is separate to the BBC’s new TV event series adaptation of the story starring Rafe Spall, Eleanor Tomlinson, Robert Carlyle and Rupert Graves. That take retains the original novel’s Edwardian England setting and is due to air later this year.
