Fox has abandoned recent plans to release its action rom-com “This Means War” several days early says Deadline.
The studio had originally scheduled the Chris Pine, Tom Hardy and Reese Witherspoon-led film for a Friday February 17th bow before moving up the release date to Tuesday February 14th to take advantage of Valentine’s Day audiences.
Tracking figures however, which gauge audience interest ahead of release, have been low for the film. Certainly they’ve been lower than the romantic drama “The Vow” opening this Friday which many expect to dominate sales for that romantic evening.
As a result Fox has shifted the film back to its original February 17th release, though will still offer sneaks of the film on the night of the 14th.
Meanwhile “I, Alex Cross”, the Rob Cohen-directed reboot of the franchise based on author James Patterson’s best-selling forensic psychologist character, has announced an October 26th 2012 release date.
Tyler Perry replaces Morgan Freeman in the role of Cross in this film which sees him tracking down the serial killer with a personal connection to him. Matthew Fox, Rachel Nichols, Edward Burns and Jean Reno also star.
