Following their success last year showcasing “IT” at what was dubbed ‘ScareDiego,’ New Line Cinema has now held a second such presentation this year on preview night at San Diego Comic Con.
Filmmaker James Wan and “IT” and “Annabelle: Creation” scribe Gary Dauberman were on hand to confirm that a third “Annabelle” movie is in the works with Dauberman both penning and making his directorial debut. One difference is that this one sounds more like “Conjuring 2.5” with the Warrens serving as key characters this time out. Dauberman said:
“I’m still finalizing the script, but it really picks up with the Warrens bringing Annabelle to the place where it can really no longer wreak havoc, which is their artifact room. But, of course, it turns out she can also wreak havoc there. And she really awakens the evil within that room and they target the Warrens’ 10-year-old daughter, Judy. So, that’s the set-up.”
Wan then added a comparison that encapsulates the idea more simply: “Annabelle basically activates all the other haunted artifacts in that room. So, it’s basically A Night at the Museum, with Annabelle!”. This September sees the next “The Conjuring” spin-off, “The Nun,” hit cinemas with plans still in place for a third ‘Conjuring’ sometime down the line.
Wan’s Atomic Monster and the Peter Safran Co. are again producing the third “Annabelle” which will open July 3rd 2019.
