Walking Dead Tops Nielsen 2015 List

Nielsen has published their annual year-end list of the most popular TV and social media draws of 2015 and, unsurprisingly, AMC’s “The Walking Dead” remains the top entertainment series of the year in the adults 18-49 and adults 18-34 demographics.

Measuring ‘Live+7’ estimates through mid-November, the zombie drama was No. 1 in key demographics, ratings and Twitter engagement. It also scored the title of the most time-shifted television program of the year with the series gaining a further 10.89 million viewers in a week’s worth of VOD and DVR playback.

However in terms of total viewers, its average of 19.7 million viewers per episode was only enough to nab fourth place behind network ratings juggernauts like “Sunday Night Football,” “The Big Bang Theory” and “NCIS”.

Other shows that did very well thanks to VOD and DVR playback included “Empire,” “The Blacklist,” “Blindspot,” “Fargo,” “True Detective,” “Better Call Saul,” “Bates Motel” and “Game of Thrones”. On Twitter the other most talked about shows were “The Bachelor,” “Game of Thrones,” “The Bachelorette,” “Empire,” “Pretty Little Liars,” “Scandal” and “American Horror Story: Hotel”.
