Just days before the fifth season is slated to premiere, AMC has officially renewed its hit zombie drama series “The Walking Dead” for a sixth season.
In an official statement, AMC president Charlie Collier says: “In advance of Sunday’s season five premiere, AMC proudly confirms a sixth season order of this extraordinary series. Thank you to Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple, the terrific executive producers, and the entire team who brings this compelling world and these rich characters to life. There’s plenty more Dead ahead thanks to their impressive, collective effort.”
Scott M. Gimple is expected to return as showrunner and executive producer for season six. Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert, Greg Nicotero and Tom Luse are also expected back as executive producers.
The series remains both the highest-rated show in cable history, and the highest rated show on TV in the key 18-49 demo. AMC recently ordered a pilot for a proposed companion series set in a new location and with new characters.
