“Walking Dead” Premiere Explains Old Rick

Last weekend’s Comic Con trailer for the eighth season of AMC’s “The Walking Dead” showed off plenty of scenes from the next eight episodes of the series. However, one scene that got everyone talking is that of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) as a much older man lying in an apparent hospital bed.

Speaking about the show at the Television Critics Association, executive producer and author Robert Kirkman was asked about the scene and if it ties into the ‘time jump’ that’s likely to happen in the upcoming season should it adhere to the comics. He says:

“Was it the time jump? I don’t know, maybe it was Rick waking up from his coma. Wouldn’t that be weird? That is an intriguing tidbit that we did throw out there on purpose, and we’re hoping that people continue to question how it is that fits into the story line and what it is. Comic book fans know where a scene that kind of looked like that would fall, but it also doesn’t seem like we would be getting to that just yet if you were a comic book fan, so there’s a mystery to that.”

Kirkman did say when we’ll get an explanation: “I’m pretty sure you’ll learn in the first episode what that means.” Of the overall season, Kirkman says it’s a much faster paced and boasts more action packed episodes than previous years. “The Walking Dead” returns October 22nd on AMC.
