San Diego Comic Con was the sight of multiple “The Walking Dead” panels today and, along with the previously reported on movie announcement, some new footage reels and news about the upcoming seasons of both existing shows and the new one were also revealed.
First up, that still-untitled third series set in the same universe as the other two will be helmed by “Kong: Skull Island” filmmaker Jordan Vogt-Roberts with production kicking off next week in Virginia. The action will center around two young female protagonists and the series, which has a ten-episode order, will be showrun by Matt Negrete and will air Spring 2020.
Alexa Mansour (“Unfriended: Dark Web”), Nicolas Cantu (“The Amazing World of Gumball”), Hal Cumpston (“Bilched”), Annet Mahendru (“The Americans”) and Aliyah Royale (“The Red Line”) have all scored lead roles in the show which focuses on the first generation to come-of-age in the apocalypse.
Next up, “Fear the Walking Dead” which is currently in the midst of its fifth season. The show has been renewed for a sixth season, while actors Colby Minifie, Peter Jacobson, and Colby Hollman are set to join the show as regulars. The second half of the fifth season is slated to debut on August 11th.
Finally we come to the main series, “The Walking Dead,” which returns for its tenth season on October 6th. Two new regulars are joining this season – Thora Birch as a Whisperer named Gamma and Kevin Carol as Virgil.
Actress Danai Gurira has confirmed the new season will be her last on the series as Michonne. She has signed a new deal to appear in a more limited capacity, popping up in only a handful of episodes before exiting. It’s not clear if she will be transitioning to the upcoming trilogy movie spin-offs featuring Andrew Lincoln.
