Waititi’s “Shadows” Gets A TV Spin-Off Series

Early last year came word that not only might Taika Waititi’s vampire mockumentary “What We Do In The Shadows” get a sequel/spin-off titled “We’re Wolves,” but a TV series spin-off was also under consideration.

Since then there’s been a few updates on the film sequel, but nothing on the series which co-writer and co-star Jemaine Clement said during that initial mention would be a long shot to get made. Well it turns out that they have beaten the odds with a six episode order just handed out by TVNZ 2.

The show will be called “Paranormal Event Response Unit” and will follow Mike and Karen (Karen O’Leary and Mike Minogue), the two cops seen in the film as they protect people from supernatural phenomena in their own police reality series. Basically think a Kiwi-flavored spin on the famed “X-Cops” episode of “The X-Files”.

NZOA is partly funding the series with CEO Jane Wrightson saying: “We are delighted that Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi are bringing their talents to smaller screens in Paranormal Event Response Unit.” Clement and Waititi previously collaborated on the small screen with the acclaimed series “Flight of the Conchords”.
