Following their collaborations on the likes of “Three Kings” and “The Fighter,” actor Mark Wahlberg and filmmaker David O. Russell are looking to team up again for a film about Father Stuart Long.
Doing a Facebook chat with his fans to promote the release of “Deepwater Horizon,” Wahlberg said he and Russell are “right now working on developing a script on Father Stu, who was an amazing priest from Helena, Montana.” Describing the man, an athlete and wannabe actor who was born again following a bike accident and who sadly passed on at the young age of 50, Wahlberg says:
“He was a very tough guy who was a fighter, a football player…anything but a spiritual guy. He found his calling, and decided, after falling in love with a woman, that he wanted to become a priest. He suffered from this horrible muscular degenerative disease but was still ordained as a priest and passed away, but not before he was able to inspire thousands upon thousands of people.”
Russell has other projects in the works first including a TV series starring Robert De Niro and Julianne Moore. Wahlberg and Russell previously tried to work together on Sony’s “Uncharted” film before that project got retooled.
