Wahlberg Joins “Reykjavik” Remake

Mark Wahlberg will star in an English-language remake of Oskar Jonasson’s Icelandic thriller “Reykjavik-Rotterdam” for Working Title says the trades.

The plot centers on a security guard and former alcohol smuggler on the Iceland-Netherlands route who is tempted back into illicit business by a dubious friend after encountering financial problems. The new version will shift the route to somewhere in North America.

Aaron Guzikowski (“Prisoners”) is adapting the script while the original film’s producer/star Baltasar Kormakur will direct the remake. Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner are producing.

The original is Iceland’s submission for this year’s foreign-language Oscar race.
