Twenty years on from the launch of “The Matrix” film and sixteen years after the last sequel, there have been rumblings that Warner Bros. Pictures is keen on a revival of some sort.
This week, out doing promotional rounds for the third “John Wick” film, filmmaker Chad Stahelski spoke with Yahoo UK and revealed that a fourth film is definitely in development and the Wachowskis are involved:
“I’m super happy that the Wachowskis are not just doing a ‘Matrix,’ but they’re expanding what we all loved. And if it’s anywhere near the level of what they’ve already done, it wouldn’t take more than a call to go, ‘Hey, we want you to be a stunt guy’ and I would probably go and get hit by a car.”
He was then asked to clarify if the Wachowskis step behind the camera for a fourth installment of the franchise to which he said “I’m not sure of the overall. I’m not sure if Lana is.” He also adds he’d be happy to help the project in any way: “I would absolutely put down whatever I was doing to help them.”
Additionally it was revealed that Keanu Reeves, star of both “The Matrix” and “John Wick” franchise, was sitting next to Stahelski at the time they were discussing this and so the question turned to Reeves who was asked if Neo will return in some capacity to which he replied: “That would be a gift. I wouldn’t say no to that. Yeah.”
