The other week Ubisoft quietly released online ‘The Red Dot,’ a commercial for its upcoming video game “Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands”. The 90-second self-contained short film is surprisingly coherent, cohesive, and even stylish – something a live-action commercial for a video game hasn’t been in some time.
Vulture has now uncovered why that is – it marks “Die Hard,” “Predator” and “The Hunt for Red October” director John McTiernan’s first filmed project in fourteen years – his first since 2003’s “Basic” starring John Travolta.
The outlet claims McTiernan shot a second commercial for the game with more traditional action. Several potential features are on his plate with an announcement about one apparently imminent.
