Got a smartphone? A piece of cardboard is about to combine with it to give you a rudimentary VR experience on the newest world in the “Star Wars” universe.
Google, Verizon and Lucasfilm’s ILMxLAB have teamed for “Jakku Spy,” an immersive virtual experience set on Jakku, the home planet of Daisy Ridley’s Rey.
Created using Google’s Cardboard technology, those involved will get to see a series of messages from the Resistance that will update between now and the release of the movie and will be able to explore one of the newest worlds in the Star Wars galaxy.
‘Jakku Spy’ is available to anyone with the iOS and Google Play Star Wars app and a Google Cardboard viewer. Verizon stores are also offering exclusive Star Wars-themed viewers throughout the day.
