Viola Davis (“Suicide Squad,” “How to Get Away with Murder”) is set to star in “Shame” and “Hunger” director Steve McQueen’s upcoming film remake of the heist thriller “Widows” for New Regency, See-Saw Films and Film 4.
“Gone Girl” screenwriter and novelist Gillian Flynn is on board to co-write the script with McQueen based on Lynda La Plante’s famed 1980s UK mini-series. The story follows the tough as nails wives of four armed robbers who come together to finish a robbery after their spouses are killed in a failed first attempt.
McQueen, Iain Canning and Emile Sherman will produce the film which will be McQueen’s first since “12 Years a Slave”. Most recently he’s been working on the HBO limited series “Codes of Conduct” which the network recently shelved.
