Viola Davis Talks Joining “Suicide Squad”

After rumors and then numerous unofficial confirmations, actress Viola Davis finally confirmed earlier this week that she will be Amanda Waller in David Ayer’s “Suicide Squad” movie and other films in the DC Cinematic Universe. Speaking about taking on the role, Davis tells THR:

“As a comic book and Wonder Woman fan, I love the whole DC Comics universe. I traded comics as a kid so all of that appeals to me. When you dream about being an actor as a kid, that’s what you dream about.

It’s like play acting: being the superhero, getting the gun; it plays into that fantasy. How to Get Away with Murder changed my exposure. I don’t know if it changed the quality of roles as much as it the exposure. I mean certainly Amanda Waller is a fabulous character.”

The comments follow various people involved in the film have been talking it up this week. At last weekend’s Oscars, actress Margot Robbie said the film was more akin to “The Dark Knight” than “The Avengers” in terms of scale and tone. Meanwhile just a few hours ago Ayer described Jared Leto’s take on The Joker in the film as “majestic” along with posting a picture of the film’s sets going up ahead of the shoot in April.
