Ving Rhames will star in a film adaptation of Athol Fugard’s 1982 play “Master Harold” says The Hollywood Reporter.
Emmy-winning director Lonny Price makes his feature debut on the project in which Rhames plays Sam, a dignified, noble waiter who is a father figure to young Hally (Freddie Highmore).
Patrick Mofokeng has also joined the cast as Willie, a younger, more lighthearted waiter who is preparing for a ballroom dancing competition.
Price played Hally opposite Danny Glover as the original Sam in the original Broadway run, and Price directed the 2003 revival.
Nicky Rebelo adapted the script and will extend the original play to take in more action and expand the setting.
Filming will take place on location in South Africa.
