Legendary and Warner Brothers are going all in on “Dune” with the upcoming WarnerMedia streaming service handing out a straight-to-series order for the series “Dune: The Sisterhood”.
The project will serve as a companion series/spin-off to the Denis Villeneuve-directed upcoming two-film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s famed sci-fi novel. Legendary Television and Warners Television are distributing the film.
Set in the same universe, the series will focus on the mysterious order of women known as the Bene Gesserit. Given extraordinary abilities by their mastery of the body and the mind, the Bene Gesserit expertly weave through the feudal politics and intrigue of The Imperium, pursuing plans of their own that will ultimately lead them to the enigmatic planet Arrakis.
Villeneuve himself will direct the pilot with Jon Spaihts set to write (the pair co-wrote the film’s script along with Eric Roth). Villeneuve and Spaihts will executive produce with Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert.
It’s not clear if any of the massive cast of the films will join the series. Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgard, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian, Stephen Henderson, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem star in the first film which is currently in production and opens in cinemas on November 20th 2020.
