Video: George Lucas On Giving Up Directing

Since George Lucas sold off Lucasfilm to Disney several years ago, the filmmaker has occasionally popped up at events or in promo pieces and has offered the odd bit of commentary about J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”.

Lucas worked with screenwriter Michael Arndt to map out Episode VII through Episode IX for several months, but ultimately that draft was scrapped in favor of a new story penned by Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan.

Lucas doesn’t seem to mind though, and in an extended video piece that was glimpsed in a Vanity Fair video reel a few weeks back, he explains why he’s not interested in directing not just another “Star Wars” but any other theatrical releases.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” opens in cinemas December 18th.
