Two of the stars of cult teen mystery series “Veronica Mars”, actors Kristen Bell and Ryan Hansen, say they’re both determined to do more adventures with the spunky detective.
In the series, Bell played a former popular high school student who becomes a private investigator in her Southern California town of Neptune after her best friend Lilly Kane (Amanda Seyfried) is murdered. Hansen played the school’s somewhat clueless hunky jock Dick Casablancas.
The series ran for 3 seasons on UPN and the CW and inspired a follow-up film which became the first high profile Kickstarter-backed movie which was ultimately released in 2014. Hansen, as part of an Indiewire interview, called up Bell to ask her if there’s plans to do more. She said:
“We are willing to put the effort in. I mean, if I have to do it as Murder She Wrote at 80, we’re going to do it. It’s going to happen. [Series creator] Rob [Thomas] and I email about it every couple of months or so…And personally I think, and I think Rob probably agrees, is that (a) we’ll never make the fans pay for it again, and (b) the format works better as an episodic [series].”
The chances of it actually happening aren’t clear. The movie cost $6 million but ultimately only grossed $3.5 million at the box-office.
