“Venom” and “A Star Is Born” look to retain their top spots at the U.S. box-office judging by Friday’s figures, holding off several newcomers including the high-profile “First Man”.
Variety reports that “Venom” will add an estimated $32 million to its total for the top spot, followed by ‘Star’ which is headed for a $28 million sophomore haul.
The Ryan Gosling-led “First Man” is coming in under expectations with $16 million, followed by the “Goosebumps” sequel at $15.75 million and “Smallfoot” at $9 million in its third week.
The Chris Hemsworth-led “Bad Times at the El Royale” is also going soft, opening in seventh with $7.8 million. Fairing strong in limited release is Oscar-bait drama “Beautiful Boy” with an estimated per-screen average of $81,250.
